We've been reminiscing fondly about our cruise ever since we got home, so we've rounded our 4.5 star rating up to a 5. A great cruise. We stayed one night at the Hampton Inn Brickell/Downtown which was a great location. New Year's Eve embarkation was relatively smooth, boarding started at 11:30am, and we were welcomed with a glass of champaign (even though it wasn't into a very dynamic entrance to the ship). Our cabins were available at 1pm and our luggage was there soon thereafter. The weather was virtually perfect all week.

We did select dining, and our recommendation is: if you usually dine at one of the two regular times anyway (6pm or 8:30pm) avoid choosing select. We tried dining at 8pm and often had to wait until 8:15-8:30 for a table (we were a party of four). In some cases we made reservations, which helped somewhat, but in hindsight a regular 8:30 slot would have fine and saved us some standing around time (as well as given us more opportunity to enjoy the same servers and have them get to know us). We dined at Murano one night, and while the lobster was good, the service was mediocre -- our server didn't know what some of the ingredients on the menu were. The food in the main dining area (Opus) was good overall. Lobster night was good too (met a couple onboard that said it was much better than last year). Oceanview Cafe was fine too. Lots of choices, and we particular enjoyed an early evening snack before the shows. In-room breakfast dining was really fun on the Verandah -- should have done that more than once.

Entertainment was good -- especially Tenors of Rock, Ralph Harris (comedian) and the Broken Strings show. Filharmonic acapella was good too. The Broadway music show was mediocre (no mainstream numbers) and Elysium was a little odd. But we were glad we saw them all. The Wedding Games were fun too.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean View with Verandah 1A

Cabin 1A

Great cabin, great location, great verandah. Really liked that we could connect our verandah to our relatives in 8224 (the door opens from 8226 with a spoon handle). Maybe a slight rocking noise when the bathroom door is closed, but extremely minor. Would stay again in this room in a flash. Best stateroom we've ever had (it was our first balcony). Bed near the bathroom. Great bathroom shower.

Port Reviews

Grand Cayman (Georgetown)

Visited Royal Palms -- a little pricey but great food, beautiful beach, great experience. Would do it again.

Labadee

Labadee is beautiful -- we were on a beach (Columbus Cove) that stared right back at the ship, but otherwise was terrific. Probably too many vendors around the shopping area, however. Caused us to skip shopping there. Also some loud sawing and hammering in the afternoon as the roof was replaced on one of the picnic areas. Still loved the island, though.

Miami

Miami is a good starting point for the cruise. Nice people, easy to get Ubers, etc. I recommend staying downtown if you can. We enjoyed the Hampton Inn Downtown/Brickell district. Nice people.
