We cruised on the Vista with my parents (70 yrs) and two little kids (3 and 5). We had an overall great time on this beautiful new ship. We've sailed before kids on Princess and RCCL, and this ship by far had the best food. We stayed in a Family Harbor Suite cabin with a balcony. Service was sometimes slow, especially at dinner. Talking with the asst Mait'r D he said that the crew to passenger ratio is 1:5 while on most other cruise lines it is usually 1:3. Entertainment on the ship was not very good. The shows were not interesting and didn't seem to vary much. The comedians were great though. The kids club was like a glorified daycare where my poor 5 year old was stuck with the 2+ toddlers. They have a small space that the kids don't leave. I felt bad leaving the kids for more than an hour at a time. The food was excellent both in the dining room and in the free "specialty" restaurants. Guys burgers was far the best eats on the ship! The salad bar at Serenity was also very good (only on sea days), and so were the tacos. Lines for the buffet were long at times and I never noticed a midnight buffet offered on this ship.
The splash area was so much fun for the 3 year old and the 5 year old was big enough to go on the water slide by herself. Big hit. The tube slide was so fun and an absolute favorite among the adult. Lines got long at times. Go during a sea day! The downside to this ship are the pools. There are only 2 accessible to the kids and they are all 6 ft deep! Yikes.
Forget about getting a deck chair on sea days. You have to get up super early. They go fast!
We stayed in cabin 2415. The set up was absolutely perfect for a young family. The kids loved having the separate couch/bed area with the curtain. They called in their fort. Every night the kids would go to sleep, we would close the curtain and were able to relax in the room or out on the balcony. Highly recommend this cabin category with young families. Being close to the Family Harbor Lounge was also a plus. Breakfast in the morning was great (although we opted for room service most days).
Only downside is these cabins are right below the Galley. We heard banging and noise all night long. Kids slept with a sound machine so they weren't really affected but we definitely didn't sleep that great on the cruise because of it.
