We had a great time on the 9 day Western Caribbean cruise departing from New Orleans on the Norwegian Dawn from December 30 - January 8. We had actually taken a 7 day version of this cruise in April of 2016, so had a chance to see the ship before and after it was renovated, and to visit Harvest Caye on the second trip.

New Orleans is a great town to spend a couple of days in before a cruise, and it was still decorated for Christmas while we were there and looked lovely.

Embarkation and disembarkation - we have sailed on Royal Caribbean, Princess, Celebrity, Holland America and Carnival. In my experience, NCL is second to none when it comes to providing a pleasant embarkation and disembarkation experience. Boarding is always a breeze, and while some cruise lines just seem anxious to kick you off the ship at the end of a cruise, NCL remains cheerful and polite, with an entertainment team lined up to wave you off.

Cabin BX

Nice cozy cabin; on the small side for three people but we made it work.

Port Reviews

New Orleans

Self-toured around the town. It was beautiful, decked out for the holidays, with good music as always.

Costa Maya

Went to Blue Caye - it was a simple place with good snorkeling.

Harvest Caye

Loved the Toucans and the Butterfly exhibit.

Grand Cayman (Georgetown)

Snorkeled at Eden Rock, a few minutes walk after the tender drop-off. Beautiful, clear blue water and gorgeous brightly colored fish. But it did have stinging jellyfish.
