Recently we sailed on the newest ship in Holland Americas fleet, the Koningsdam. We had so looked forward to this trip for a variety of reasons. In the past service has always been wonderful, the rooms were spacious and the entertainment was great. Not so much on this sailing.
We were in an obstructed view veranda. Might as well been an ocean view. the room was blocked by a tender with no view what so ever. The room, while nice, was smaller than the rooms any Holland cabin I have been in.
Day one, got there and no info about who the cabin attendant was.. We wanted ice and called room service, asked another cabin steward about ice.. all to no avail. Was told our steward didnt start till 5pm. Got ice from a bar on the second floor. That evening we had dinner and returned to the room after 8ish, no turndown. Again, had to call guest services (always a long wait) Finally did it ourselves. This continued for serveral days.
comfortable but smaller than past holland cabins. bed comfortable and the shower was the best i have ever experienced on a ship.
3 hour tour of puerto plata. not much to say, you were supposed to have time for shopping but were taken to a little shop in the center of town. not much there.
