We chose the Adventure of the Seas because of the great ports this ship visits out of San Juan and we have always had a great experience with Royal Caribbean. We flew in the day before and enjoyed an afternoon and night in San Juan. We got to the ship at around 12:30 ish and had no problems. The embarkation went smoothly. Although I understand from other reviewers that the ship did not get all of its upgrades in dry dock, we thought all areas looked nice and the ship is in great shape. It is amazing how clean they keep all areas with that many people on board! We ate in the dining room, the windjammer cafe and the Johnny Rockets. I thought the food was good quality in all areas. We had 6:00pm dining time in the dining room, but we only ate in there 3 times. My husband and I prefer not to have to be anywhere in particular at a set time on vacation, so we typically do not eat every night in the dining room, as a rule. The food is just as good in the windjammer and we like to be able to choose whatever we like, as our food preferences are fairly different.

We paid for a balcony suite and were assigned room 6334. Our room was fine but a few days into the cruise, the shower started leaking into the carpet. They tried to dry it but on the second day of that, I went down stairs to guest services and asked for a new bigger, better room for our trouble. They were very accommodating, apologetic, and moved us to a junior suite, Room 9240. I was very pleased with the upgrade, of course and had a very positive experience with guest services.

Ports: My husband and I are big golfers and we brought our clubs on this trip. I booked our tee times ourselves though the club houses directly at Sandy Lane in Barbados and the Royal St. Kitts Golf Course at the Marriott in St. Kitts. At Sandy Lane, just get the email to the golf pro directly and he will take your tee time. I had to contact them several times but eventually got it done. The St. Kitts golf club has a website you can book directly through but I had to be closer to the date to get it to work. Although, the St. Kitts golf course was not crowded and it seemed we could have done this without a tee time but you never know!. If you want to play golf, a cruise is a great way to play unique islands. It is easy to get a cab at any of the ports to the golf courses. Both of those courses are close to the port, 15 minutes tops via cab. I booked our tee times in the 10:30ish hour just to allow time to get off the boat, get a cab, etc. and I highly recommend keeping your tee time around that time, as things happen and sometimes the boats do not always get to port exactly at 8:00. We had a great time at each of these very different courses. If you play, definitely check these out.
