We were supposed to depart on December 26th at 4:30 but the ship arrived in the port about 6 hours late due to fog. Boarding was challenging (started at 4 pm and was done around 7:30 pm) because of the delayed arrival and late disembarkation of previous guests. Most of us were just thrilled we were able to board at all.
The port was closed all night and into the next afternoon because of the fog so we couldn't set sail. We finally got out around 1:00 pm on the 27th. The delayed departure forced an itinerary change and we lost Belize. It was replaced with Puerto Maya Mexico. Our Cozumel stop was rescheduled for the 31st instead of the 28th. We had made private shore excursion plans in Cozumel for the 28th and had to scramble to reschedule them.
Okay, that's all the not so great stuff. The rest of the trip was AWESOME. If you have ever thought about going on a New Years cruise, book it now. We had so much fun with all the activities around the ship.
We typically get a suite but since we booked at the last minute we decided to go with just a basic interior cabin. I always thought it would be uncomfortable in such a small space but we were very pleasantly surprised. It is definitely tight but we weren't in there very often and found it really wasn't a problem. It is going to make us rethink our cabin choices going forward. Suites do get some nice perks but trust me they pay handsomely for them. This cabin was on the 9th floor just 2 doors down from the elevator in the rear of the ship. It was easy to get to the Windjammer and pool from there and we never heard any elevator noises. At less than half the price of a suite, this stateroom was a bargain.
We live in Texas and spend a lot of time each year in Galveston. We stayed overnight pre-cruise at the Galvez. It's a little pricey but a beautiful historic hotel.
We ate at Willie G's on the pier. It's one of the best restaurants on the island.
