We chose this cruise to allow 10 family members the opportunity to take a group vacation together. We recognized that the post-Christmas/New Years time for a cruise means it would be packed, and it definitely was.

Overall, the cruise staff did a great job accommodating everyone on the ship, but it was clear that they were a little overwhelmed by the prior Christmas cruise and this one was having on them. There were some great cruise staff members that provided excellent service, and others that were mediocre. We found our favorite spots based upon the service experience and utilized them for hanging out on the ship.

We primarily used Taste/Savor for breakfast and lunch on the cruise when available. I had one odd experience near the end of the cruise for breakfast. We had put in an order for 2 people around 9:30AM (after waiting 20 minutes at the table) and were not served until 10:10AM, even though others who had sat down after us and ordered after us were served their items, some of which were what we had ordered. I think there was some problem with the kitchen staff behind the scenes. The waiter staff was pleasant to us, and served extra croissants and coffee while we were waiting. I had an appointment at 10:30 so I had to leave before the complete order was delivered. A bit odd, but I was in a relaxed mood at this point, and wasn't frustrated by the delayed service. Besides this, the the other experiences in these 2 restaurants had great service and food choices available.

Mid-Ship Balcony Stateroom

Cabin BA

For the Breakaway, this is a standard 2 or 3 person stateroom with a balcony - starboard side.

Our steward had just returned from a break, so he seemed a little unorganized the first 2 days, but took care of our room very well.

The shower drain was not draining well and did result in the bathroom floor having a mild flood one time. We informed the steward on the 3rd day of the cruise, and it was fixed 2 days later. My recommendation is that if you notice a slight problem with the drains on day 1, let your steward know immediately so it can be addressed as soon as possible.

We really didn't spend time in the room too much except for sleeping. It met our needs.

The room was in the middle of the hallway and we used the back stairs of the ship mostly. So, the hallways were quiet and still not too far away from getting to the elevators and stairwell.
