We normally cruse with Princess or Royal Caribbean so my experience is relative to what I am accustomed to. We joined this cruise because we were joining a group trip and had no choice in the matter. Their group services organization was atrocious. None of the group reservations or coordinated events went smoothly during the entire duration of the trip. It was almost comical how much they messed up. That alone turned me off from NCL.
Embarkation: When we checked-in online, we could choose a check-in as early as 9. We checked-in around 10:30. However, boarding doesn't begin until 12. So you just sit in a holding room. At least people who check-in earlier board first, but it seemed very disorganized and inefficient. Friends that had a later check-in time took hours to board due to the bottle-neck.
Food: The food was very good. They have many options to choose from. However, the buffet offerings were only average. I hated the design of the buffet too. It didn't seem very accessible for the passenger capacity.
Cabin: Bathroom sizes were larger than normal. We had a mini-suite but checked out our friend's interior rooms and were impressed with the bathrooms. Our balcony was the smallest we've ever had by a significant margin (we always get balcony rooms). That was disappointing for the money we spent. Our room was extremely dusty and there was other people's hair everywhere. When the steward would "clean", my belongings would have a new layer of dust because the dust just got disturbed rather than removed.
Several beaches to choose from so it didn't feel crowded. Good food for what it was. Over-priced rentals. No beach wait service.
