Grand Princess Family Christmas Cruise for 10, 1 set of grandparents and 2 sisters and their families of 4.

This trip was originally scheduled as a 10 day cruise but due to a 2 day delayed dry dock it was cut down to 8. We lost 2 ports of call, Manzanillo and Puerto Vallarta but picked up Ensenada. Though initially disappointed, Princess gave 2 days of refund per fare, $300 refundable on board credit per person and 30% off per fare on a future cruise. We were more than happy with the compensation.

I can only assume being the first cruise after coming out of a dry dock has it's own challenges. We were also late leaving San Francisco by approx. 10 hours due to mechanical issues with the barge connection.

Cabin Review

Mini-Suite with Balcony

Cabin ME

We had 3 aft mini-suite cabins on Emerald deck; E725, 727 and 729. 2 grandparents were in 729 which had a somewhat larger balcony than the other 2 cabins. It was the final cabin on the deck before the back of the ship so their balcony had an additional curved section as well. We had the cabin steward open the balcony doors between all 3 cabins and were happy to have our own personal spread out space. We could not get the sliding doors to lock on E725 and E727, this was a minor issue.

Cabins 725 and 727 had 4 people each. The add'l mini-suite space was perfect for our families, 2 adults with a baby and toddler in one room and 2 adults with a teenager and pre-teen in the other. The kids loved having their own TV and table with chair in "their" half of the room and also enjoyed the full size tub in the bathroom. The adults enjoyed the refrigerator and add'l nightstand spaces on "our" side. There was plenty of space to store clothes and luggage. The programming on the TV was pretty good. I was impressed they had several news channels and played more current than not movies. There was also a dedicated kids movie channel, a plus with the kiddos. As first time Princess cruisers we were especially fond of The Love Boat episodes they had airing. Pure nostalgia for us.

Cabins 725 and 727 did have water leakage by the bathrooms but these were resolved within the first day. Followed by champagne and strawberries on the house for the slight inconvenience.

One can definitely feel the rock and sway on deck 8 aft. I woke up several times in the rolling and swaying cabin. Our party was aware of this before booking so it was no problem for us. If anything, it was an extra treat for the kids. There were also no noise issues being above the Vista lounge. We never heard a thing from below.
