This cruise was to be a cruise all about the ship. We had read about Anthem and the new features and were excited to try them out. Unfortunately, bad weather nixed the two things we wanted to do most, North Star and Ripcord. I understand bad weather happens, but even after being literally within the first ten people to sign up, we were never offered alternate times. We were simply cancelled and had to wait in line with the hundreds of others that never signed up at all. We never made it on either attraction. Very disappointed. This ship has had it's fair share of bad weather trouble in the past. Remember the news stories of furniture being tossed around, twice. If bad weather is going to cancel major ship attractions that cost millions of dollars to implement, shouldn't this ship's home be in calmer waters? Just saying.....
Overall the ship itself has a pleasant layout. The Promenade is small and somewhat cramped, especially with the never ending peddeling of watches, t-shirts, and other merchandise lined up on tables in the center. The Solarium and sports area are the best of the fleet. The Solarium covers one family pool and the adult pool. Don't worry, they are seperated. The adult pool is three terraced pools toward the front of the ship. Two large hot tubs flank each side of a 3 inch deep lounging area at the base of the third pool in the very front. Great views with plenty of seating. The basketball/dodgeball courts with ping-pong and other table games along with bumber cars is completed cover and air conditioned.
Two-70 was nice. Again though, bad weather canceled our reservations for Spectra. Never could seem to make it back. The Virtual Orchestra lived up to the billing of the video screens and sound system. Some of the best and most unique drinks on the ship are served at the Two-70 bar. Dining is handled well. My time dining takes place in two restaurants American Icon and Silk, you choose. There are two more restaurants for first and second seatings. No more three tier massive dining rooms on this ship. Specialty dining is the same for the most part. Jamie's replaced Giovanni's Table. Jamie's was disappointing with less than fresh pasta. Giovanni's table was better. Chops is same, no changes. Which leads me to the menu. My wife and I have been cruising since 2003. It was right around that time the menu for general dining changed. It hasn't changed since. It is time for a change. If car manufactures can re-tool their factories for new models each year, I am sure cruise ships could change their menus more than once in almost 15 years.
Cabin was nice and the state room attendant was excellent.
