This cruise started on Sunday, December 18 and ended on Monday, December 26. Flew to San Juan from Orlando, FL and picked up by Carnival provided service. We (wife and I) were "faster to the fun" members, so getting on board was quite easy and painless (and quick!). Explored San Juan after we ate lunch. Left port about 10:00 PM. I read several reviews about this ship being "old" or needing repair, but we didn't see anything wrong with the ship. Our room was small, but well maintained by our cabin steward, Nickolus. We had room E148 (not a balcony room). Window was large and we enjoyed looking out while in port or early mornings.

We visited St. Thomas, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, St. Martin, St. Croix. Only one "fun day at sea." We did have one diversion with rescuing a small sailboat at sea. It caused us to be about an hour late to port, but the captain allowed us an additional hour on shore. No other interruptions. Actually, we didn't find the ship dated or anything. It was quite festive and well decorated for the holidays. Service in the dining room was exceptional. We had early dining and each meal was delicious. We were seated with 3 other couples and we all enjoyed being together at meals. Meals in the "Coconut Grove" was good as well. Desserts didn't seem to be "overly sweet" in the Coconut Grove, but they weren't bad. Service was a bit slower in cleaning up, but otherwise fine.

Entertainment could have been better planned. Hasbro show was planned twice, but the second show (which was different from the first) was after 10:00 PM. Even the trivia games were an hour apart instead of being 30 minutes apart like on other cruises (some people didn't want to "wait around" for the next game, so they left). Comedy was good although we didn't like the later (in the cruise) comedians. Would I return to the Fascination? Sure! It IS a smaller ship, but that only makes it better to get to know the people aboard.

Cabin Review

Ocean View

Cabin 6E

A bit small, with only a bed, small desk, chair and stool. Small bathroom. Excellent cabin service however. Plenty of space to place clothing (3 wardrobes and some drawers). Some review mentioned hearing through the walls. I never had that experience while on this cruise. Either our neighbors were quiet or the walls were enough to drown out the noise.

Port Reviews

San Juan

Old San Juan and the capitol building is within walking distance. We enjoyed checking in on the ship, eating lunch and then walked into town. Plenty of time to explore the old city.

St. Thomas

We took the Skyway to the top of the mountain and enjoyed the view. If you buy the ticket on the ship, you actually save over the price of the ride (by $1 each ticket). When we came back down, we walked into town and back to the ship.

St. Lucia

Rainy day for us, so not much happened. We did shop a bit nearby the cruise port.

St. Kitts (Port Zante)

We found a taxi and a group of other cruise passengers wanting to go to south Friars Beach (Shipwreck Beach Bar). Cost was $4 per person one way. Got a bit of a tour on the way there with an overview look from a hilltop. Spent maybe 2 and 1/2 hours there and returned to the ship. Went shopping nearby and really enjoyed this island.

St. Maarten

I like St. Maarten. We visited Maho beach (the beach nearest the airport that YouTube videos show the landings or take-offs of planes). A bit pricey, so we had to wait for enough people wanting to go there directly (taxi wanted to take groups of 8 or more). Price was $8 one way per person. Getting back to the ship was the same (just having to wait for a group to form was the hassle). Much traffic, but the island itself is beautiful. Plenty of places to shop or eat.

St. Croix

A very "laid back" place. We arrived Christmas day, so not much was open except for "flea market" type places for shopping. Nearby beach (just off the ship) was for snorkling and swimming. I enjoyed the port, but other passengers didn't seem to like it. It was a welcome, if slower, pace than any of the other islands we visited.
