Cabin: Balcony

When we booked this cruise we didn't realize right away the design of the balcony cabin which we had booked. The curved wall design made the cabin smaller and narrowed the space between the king size bed and the desk so that if one person was sitting on the stuhl in front of the desk/dresser then it was not possible to pass behind to the sofa side of the cabin! Another total design failure was to separate the toilet, sink and shower in three units where the shower was on one side of the entrance and the toilet on the other side of the entrance. Toilet had a curved sliding door with obscure glass which didn't provide any privacy. The sink was at the bottom of the bed on the desk wall with very narrow area between the foot of the bed and the sink! The design of the toilet practically made it to hear even the number of toilet paper sheets pulled by the other person in the cabin who was maybe sitting on the bed or on sofa. Small TV on the wall was not swivel therefore hard to watch if you sit on the sofa especially on the balcony end of it since the sofa was also curved! There was not enough room in front of the sofa to have a coffee table. When you sit on the sofa you basically face the wardrobe. We have been on many different cruise ships with four different cruise lines including other Norwegian ships but no one had a cabin design this terrible. All had separate bath rooms, all had coffee tables in front of the sofa and enough room to move around. All had TVs placed so that either could be watched from sofa or the bed or they were swivel to turn it from sofa to bed or vice versa.

As a former flagship of Norwegian we found Epic not so exciting either. No impressive multi story atrium with nice stairways found even on much smaller ships. Most lounges located so that people had to walk thru them to go from one end of the ship to the other. Elevators on deck 7 were placed so that made to walk through a challenge when people were standing to wait for elevators to come. One has to review the deck plans to understand these observations. The menu and quality of food as well as service in main dining room "The Taste" was very good. To go to the other main dining room Manhattan one had to go through the Casino. Also, one had to reserve tickets to go see the shows in the Theater which was a first for us! In no other ship we were required to do so. Overall, another cruise on a Norgewian ship a "yes" but one on Epic a big "No"

Port Reviews

Port Canaveral (Orlando)

Did not take an excursion but rather used local tour bus on port that was fraction of cost what excursion price was.

Tortola

A small island interesting but not as pretty as St. Thomas
