The Eurodam is a newest Holland America large ship at 2100 passengers to sail the Baltic. We booked the Gems of the Baltic cruise for the price and the itinerary of overnight in St. Petersberg at !0 days from Copenhagen return. Unlike the Med, the Baltic can generate some very rough weather and we experienced that on our sail home to Copenhagen from Keil. Hurricane force winds and high seas caused the ship to list some 8 degrees to starboard and while we sat in the buffet for early supper the decorations and dinner plates went sliding and crashing on the floor for 25 minutes. Other than that we got drizzle rain in Tallin, Estonia and St. Petersberg and Stockholm with isolated showers in Warnnemund and pouring in Keil. Overall the weather was poor this trip but the sites in St Petersberg were worth the trip especially at Peterhof. I chose this trip first for this and second the ship as being new.The stops in Warnnemund and Keil were not of importance to me as we were not interested in Berlin or Hamburg. Helsinki and Stockholm are great destinations and deserve more time than 1 day in port. Now we are prepared to do a river cruise across Europe to view the sites from Amsterdam to Budapest or St Petersburg to Moscow. The Eurodam itself is very well laidout and not far to go to any section. The covered in retractable roof on the Lido pool is the best design for poor weather. Private cabanas are a new feature for families or couples that want a little privacy. The public areas are inviting with quiet nooks abound during the day and entertainment at night. Although not as lively as other lines the shows were good if not spectacular. HL is still a line for the older generation and very few children on this cruise. Our cabin was a veranda standard in the Spa section forward with adequated room for storage and bathtub shower. There was a DVD player with rentals available at the library and flat screen TV. Balcony had table and chairs but we didnot use much with the weather cool and rainy. Beds were comfortable and service excellent. The food served onboard was very good with the specialty restaurant called Tamarind Asian fusion cusine excellent in presentation and flavour.Overall rating for ship and itinerary is 8 out of 10.
