To begin with there were many reasons why we chose this cruise one being the itinerary and the new ship itself. This was the fourth time we chose Holland America. We like this line for the elegance of the ships and the quiet atmosphere.

Upon arrival at the port our bags were collected at the curb and we proceeded into the terminal to check in. Although the line was long with many switchbacks it kept moving rapidly. Very shortly we were at the counter showing our passports and having our pictures taken for the room card. Up the ramp, another picture taken for the embarkation collection and onto the ship itself. We found our cabin and were impressed. At first glance we thought the bathroom was a little small and the toilet paper was placed awkwardly behind you. The counter seemed a bit small and the lights took a little getting used to (the catch lights in your eyes appear square). Then there was the shower! The shower was almost worth the price of the cruise ticket all by itself! Hot water was plentiful and the shower head was great!

I found the food onboard to be up to the standard Holland America has always maintained. One small note though, we had an 11:30pm departure from Curasao but the lido closed at that same time. Perhaps keeping that venue open a bit later with such a late departure time would be beneficial. By the time we got there we had 45 minutes in which to shower and get some dinner before it closed. I recognize that the New York Deli was still open and that food was available until midnight. Also, quite often there was a line waiting to get into the dining room. Pagers seemed to be the norm for those passengers opting for anytime dining. At least if you were issued a pager you could get a free glass of champagne at the Ocean Bar while you waited.
