The Escape is quite different from the NCL Star. The emphasis is on extracting more money from guests who have already paid to be there, and many of whom have already paid for an "all-inclusive" drink and dining package, which is far from all-inclusive.
The Main Dining Room still has the excellent food that sets NCL apart. On board the Escape it is much smaller, and darker – more like a dinner club, with a stage and dance floor at the back. The Escape has only a small, very slanted window looking out the aft. This means that there is room for fewer diners, so more are pushed to the paid restaurants -- and there are MANY paid restaurants.
There are many bars, and many have live entertainment in the evenings. Most are good, but I didn't appreciate that the performers at the all-request piano show kept asking for money for the requests... and emphasized that they would play the request that came with $20 BEFORE the request that came with $5. AND that a request without money was JUST a "SUGGESTION".
