We arrived in Miami the day before the departure which is always a good idea when coming from Canada as you can never predict weather and missing a cruise embarkation because of plane delay is never a good way to start a holiday. We stay at Best Western near the airport which was a nice place to rest up pre-cruise. Next morning we were shuttled to the port for $10 each. Not too shabby. We also arranged the same vehicle back to the airport at the end of cruise for the same amount.
Embarkation was a mess. The line up was so long that security kept clearing people from the queue who accidentally lined up for the Disney Magic, which was adjacent to the Navigator. Never had this experience before. Even worse was there was no distinction made for Suite vs. Non-Suite guests and no one around to direct Suite guests if there was.
Junior Suite was a typical JS. 50% larger than a balcony suite with a full bath and roomier bathroom. Shower curtained needed a washing moldiness odour was present. More room at the foot of the bed is nice and the walk in closet is a plus but on a 5 day cruise, was not really a requirement. Like most rooms, the electrical outlet situation sucks. I could not use my lap top on the balcony for prolonged periods because there was no power to plug in near sliding doors.
Junior Suites are a good value if you want an upgrade but only if you are chasing for double cruise points. Otherwise, stick to a balcony and save yourself the increase in tips fee difference. The shower and bathroom size is nice but I don't really mind the phone-booth showers in regular rooms. The really plus is the room to move around. Especially at the foot of the bed.
Take a day to visit South Beach. Pricey but worth it!
