Traveled with children

We drove down to Tampa from Tennessee.  We have two children (girls, ages 5 and 8) and have always wanted to try Busch Gardens.  For those of you who need something to do in Tampa, Busch Gardens is a great choice...it's a zoo, but with huge roller coasters and water rides.  We spent two days at Busch Gardens prior to cruising and had a super time.Sunday May 24thArrived at the terminal about 10:15am....Husband dropped the luggage, me, and the girls off at the terminal and parked the car in the terminal parking.  We felt that was easiest.  We entered the terminal, registered and sat down (this all took 20 minutes) and begun the wait for Group 4 to be called. We were onboard by 12:15pm.  Lunched outside on the Lido deck by the pool.  I carried a bag with the kid's swim suits in it, so they changed in the public restroom and swam.  Before we knew it, it was 1:30pm and our rooms were ready.CabinWe had a Category 8-H, extended balcony. The extra room on the balcony was nice...received the room as a free upgrade, I'm not sure that I would have paid the extra money for it (I'm not sure how much more it was than our regular balcony).  We really like the roomy feel of having a balcony and I don't think we will cruise without one. We were one deck below the Lido....we heard (faintly) the pool chairs moving a little in the morning, but nothing that would wake me up. We enjoyed the closeness to the buffet and drinks...just a run up the stairs for my morning coffee. We enjoyed our cabin and felt that it was good size.  The bedding was very comfy.  Our room attendant was great. Our room was always kept orderly.  The kids loved the towel animals that greeted us each evening.DiningMost mornings we ate breakfast and lunch up on the Lido deck. I just love eating in the open air. I felt the buffets had a good selection and the lines moved quickly. We loved the nachos on the Lido deck and the Sushi Bar each evening downstairs.  We had early dining (6pm), which works well for us with the kids.  Marina was our server and she was wonderful. Very personable and accommodating.  The food was good.  The Chocolate Melting Cake was fabulous and probably the best dessert hands down. It was very difficult to order anything else after trying it!Camp CarnivalOur kids loved it. They wouldn't leave.  All the parents on the ship had the same problem, their kids wouldn't leave Camp Carnival. The counselors were fabulous...very entertaining. They had new activites every 30 minutes.  Our kids would rotate eating with us one night and then with their friends (at Camp Carnival) the next night. They do a great job with the kids and knew all of them.  Camp Carnival closes at 10pm, but they you can stay until 3am for $5/hour, which is a very fair price.PortsGrand Cayman. We did the Sting Ray/Snorkle/Turtle Farm Tour through Captain Marvins.  The sting rays and snorkeling were great. Our guide made sure that everyone had great photo opportunites with the rays. There were 25 people in our group. Afterwards, we boarded a bus and did the island tour, rum cake stop, Hell stop and the Turtle Farm.  I felt the rum cake and Hell stops were pretty much a waste of time and would have like to spent more time with the turtles, but you had to do the entire tour.  The turtle farm was fabulous, especially for the kids and next cruise we will probably spend the day at the turtle farm.  We had about 1 hour to shop near the port after our excursion. Captain Marvins is a great outfit, I would highly recommend them.BelizeWe booked our own excursion here too. Cave-tubing.com.  We rode ATVs through the jungle for about 20-30 minutes (fun!) and then the cave tubing. Afterwards, they took us back to their ATV area, where you could purchase a chicken and rice lunch for $5.  It was delicious.  Very fun excursion. I was worried about the kids, but the guides took really good care of us and made us feel like it was their goal for us to have a GREAT time. I would highly recommend cave-tubing.com.  Don't leave the port area on your own in Belize...you need to be on a guided excursion!RoatanOur favorite. Tropical. Lush.  Great Island.  We grabbed a cab and our driver took us out to Tabyana Beach (15-20 minute drive). There is a reef about 20 yards out. Fabulous, especially for the kids....calm water, it was about 10 feet deep, but then you could quickly swim to water that was only chest deep, if you needed to rest.  Great Beach. There is a beach bar with burgers and you can rent snorkel equipment (we did not).  Its the same beach that the Carnival Cruise excursion goes to, but you just won't get a lounge chair, if you do it on your own.  Afterwards, our driver took us through West End (I wanted to check it out...I'm glad we chose to spend the day at Tabyana vs. West End) and then we stopped and shopped at "local" places.  We hired our driver for $100.  We walked off the ship and there were tons of cabs waiting. It felt safe, because the port is very secure and only registered cab companies can get in the port, so you know that you are getting in a legitimate cab.  We would love to go back to Roatan and stay on the island. Our Cozymel stop was cancelled due to the swine flu. We knew this a few weeks before we sailed.DisembarkingVery easy.  We set out luggage out the night before, so all I had was a small carryon with my valuables. We had breakfast in Truffles at 7am, we took our time and had one last meal. It was very good. Then about 8:00 am, we went and sat in lobby area until our group was called (probably called at 8:45).  Very easy and organized.  We were driving in our car by 9:05am....we drove to Disney, checked into our hotel and were in the park by 11:15am.We really enjoyed this cruise. We had low expectations because of the great price, but, boy, were we surprised. Carnival was fantastic, I can't say enough good things about our cruise.  The food was good, and the service was fabulous.  For those who have kids, this is a great vacation.....you get lots of family time and some adult time too,  and you can't beat the price. Try Carnival, you won't regret it.

Cabin Review

Cabin 8H

Great Balcony...Great View.Loved the location...just one deck up to the Lido.  We were worried about Lido Deck noise, but we it was very quiet. Once in a while, we could  hear the deck chairs being moved....but it was very faint, it never bothered us. I would book this exact location again.
