We choose this cruise to celebrate my birthday.
Just to get the little niggles out of the way first. Flight to Barbados was excellent and leaving the aircraft straight onto coaches to be taken to the ship, this was well organised. On arrival at the port you hand in your medical declaration and collect your ship cards then begins the long hot queue which moves very slowly to have photograph taken for security and have credit card registered. This part of the experience really could do with improving, there is no seating, drinks are available as you walk in but none are offered while you queue, it really is miserable. The staff on the desks are efficient and nice but then you face another photographer to pose against a back drop when I said I did not want my photograph taking I was told I had to for 'facial recognition purposes' and if I checked on Deck 5 I would see why. I am sure I was lied to and all they wanted to do was sell photos of people as they boarded the ship, people should not be forced into having photographs taken if they don't want to, bad mark Tui.
Now for the good bits. The Discovery is a lovely ship, clean and bright. Staff are fantastic and the food is excellent. We ate in the Buffet Dining Room as there was a wide range of food on offer and it was never too busy and always got a table easily. Afternoon Tea is also served here which was amazing with a good selection of little sandwiches, cakes etc.
This is a large cabin with plenty of space. There is good wardrobe space but a little bit lacking in drawer space. The bathroom is also large with a good size shower and the shower curtain did not cause any problems. We were very well looked after by Elvin who was always smiling and happy to have a little chat.
