I chose this cruise because I wanted to get a taste of several Hawaiian islands, and I wanted plenty of sea days to relax on either end of my island adventures. This was my sixth cruise. I had previously cruised on Carnival, Holland America, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean. I took this cruise with a friend who was also a regular cruiser. We are both in our late 30s.

Embarkation in Los Angeles was standard. There were a few lines and about 20 minutes of standing and waiting until our turn to check in. It wasn't bad, but it was not as smooth and efficient as I have experienced, specifically with my last cruise at Royal Caribbean. Standing in line and waiting is never comfortable, but I felt sorry for the many, many elderly people who were made to stand around and wait, too.

The muster drill seemed to take FOREVER. Lots of standing and waiting around for this, too. Once again, I felt sorry for the senior citizens. This, too, could use some improvement on efficiency.

My stateroom was on Aloha Deck 12, room 431. This room looked worn out, to say the least. Drawers were broken and the fabrics (curtains, carpets, etc.) just looked sad and drab. But the bathroom smelled so bad like and outhouse, it made me gag. Keeping the door closed kept the smell mostly at bay, but I could not go in there. I reported the issue to the customer services desk and someone came to plumb and clean it. And the smell did not improve. So an hour or two later I complained again. I was nice about my complaining, but would not settle for a stinky bathroom. Have you ever been in a stairwell in a downtown public place and smelled the urine stench? That's what my bathroom smelled like. So after another plumber and the room steward coming and scrubbing the entire bathroom, we could only smell cleaner and they left. But 30 minutes later I went back inside and smelled the nastiness again. I complained one last time and they switched us to another room. Thank heaven. I checked later in the cruise and some poor sucker had been moved into that room. Whatever they were moving away from must have been BAD indeed.

My new stateroom was on Baja Deck 11, room 522. What an improvement. This room was in much better shape and the bathroom smelled just fine. Throughout the cruise, however, we called the plumber an average of once per day. Yes, about 15 times, to come fix the toilet. It seemed to clog too easily. I can assure you, without being too graphic, that was was being flushed was not excessive in any way. It was annoying to have to have the plumber out that often, but they were always prompt and courteous. I sure felt sorry for that guy, though. What a yucky job.

I never heard my neighbors, except on the balcony or when my sliding door was open and the neighbors' had their sliders open as well.

There was only one outlet that I can remember. I suggest bringing a surge-protector with multiple outlets to help out if you need more than two things to plug in at once. That one plug is over the desk on the outside wall of the room. It would have been nice to have an outlet by each night stand since many of us have phones to charge at night and to use as alarm clocks, etc.

The shower space is tight. I couldn't bend over to shave my legs in there. The shampoo/conditioner combination in a pump bottle is okay as a shampoo, but I recommend bringing a conditioner if you have longer hair.
