Arrival in Sydney

We chose this cruise because it was going to Fiji. Embarkation was smooth as our shuttle did not arrive at the dock until after 1pm. Cabin was good and we really liked the private balcony, and the shower stall (not over bath). Our cabin steward Mohammed introduced himself when we arrived, and kept everything spic and span for the duration of the voyage. Our dinner was 5:30pm in the Sapphire Dining Room (Deck 3). Our dinner companions were pleasant, although the table (10 seater) was never fully occupied, and we even ate alone one night. Food was dissapointing and portions were on the small side. Our servers, Fan Liu and Yuyu were brilliant and did a sterling job under trying conditions because of people at a neighbouring table. Wines were ridiculously overpriced - one wine on their list was selling for US$34 (it can be purchased at Dan Murphys for under AU$5). The food in the Windjammer Buffet was about the same and at times it was hard to find a table. Entertainment in the lovely La Scala theatre was mostly OK. The standout act was the pianist from Perth, and the band was excellent (if a little too loud). The two ice show we saw were also brilliant. Service was hit and miss and there were not many smiling staff members. One bar tender rudely said Yes! in a loud voice when my husband tried to order at the bar because table service did not seem to be available. He also said the drink we required was not available, but somehow this drink was found for us by the waiter we eventually ordered from (in the same bar). My husband and I are an older couple and usually travel on a smaller ship. This ship was huge and there were at least 600 kids on board. This did not really bother us and there were plenty of places to have a quiet time (not the pool area or the shopping mall).

In short we were rather disappointed and will not cruise with RCCL again.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin E1

Cabin was good. Not particularly roomy, but we only slept there or sat on the balcony to read.

Port Reviews

Mare

We left the ship early and almost had a beautiful beach to ourselves. After a refreshing swim we went back to the ship before the rain started.

Beach is lovely, but there is not much else to do.

Suva

We had lunch at Tiko's waterfront floating restaurant, which was a short walk from the ship. Prawns Lolo and fried snapper - very good. Much better that ship's fare.

Lautoka

Took taxi ride around to a native village. Had lunch in a cafe (I think it was Deja Vu). Food was a little strange but there were lots of locals eating there.

Noumea

We had been to Noumea once before. Weren't impressed the first time and even less so this time. A$15 for two coffees is a bit hot. Very steamy and rainy weather.

Sydney (Australia)

We are prejudiced because we live just North of Sydney and can visit when evee we wish. Luck us!
