Let me first start by saying that overall, NCL did not meet my expectations one bit. I have cruised quiet a few times(6-7) with Carnival and once with Royal Caribbean. There were times on this cruise that I really did have a blast, but overall I was expecting a better experience than Carnival and that did not happen.

My first bad experience happened the day I booked my cruise. I booked it directly from NCL's website that was clearly advertising a special in which when you booked your cruise, you were given a choice to choose one of five items... something like a free guest, free drinks, some sort of extra points, and a couple of other items. I really wanted the free drinks so I went ahead and booked it. I got all the way through the booking process and noticed that I was never asked what choice I wanted to make. I quickly called NCL's customer service and explained the situation. The lady I talked to come back and told me that special does not apply to the room I wanted to book, even though the special was advertised right next to the "book now" button. Supposedly I booked a balcony cabin at a "discounted" price and the special I wanted was not applicable to the discounted price. The lady suggested if I wanted to, she could move me to an interior cabin and give me the free drink package for nearly $1200 more that I have already paid for my balcony cabin. I ended up telling her to not worry about it, I should have called and verified before I jumped directly into their scam.

Now on to the ship itself... the NCL Epic. This is probably one of the nicest ships I have been on and by far the largest. The room layout is sub-par; the shower and toilet area are pretty much built into the room and separated with a curtain. It is certainly something odd especially if you're traveling with a friend or family member. There is also not a lot of room to move around at all. I have always thought every cruise ship I have sailed on had a very small room but this one definitely tops that list.

Port Reviews

Tortola

This is an excellent port of call to explore. We rented scooters and randomly cruised around the island until we ran across a very nice beach. The views that you can see from the mountains are amazing.

St. Thomas

The views you can get from this place are amazing. The only downfall was our taxi driver tried to short-change us. He was not affiliated with the cruise line in any way.
