We were the first sailing out of Tampa on the Jade. I have only previously sailed the mega-ships, so I expected to have a more subdued trip and that is what I got.

The ship is old and is set for dry-dock next spring. The dry-dock was supposed to happen prior to my cruise but was pushed back due to re-deployment of many of the NCL ships. The ship is in dire need of refurbishment as the décor is garish. The ship is an old Hawaiian themed ship, but it's bad Hawaiian. Colors are hideous and the theming is just plain bad. The newer ships are much more elegant in color and theming.

Being a smaller ship, there was not much to do on the ship during the day. There was no separate kids/adult area and no ropes course. The pools area was always crowded and it was hard to get drinks with the UBP around the pool area. There were however plenty of other bars to quickly get drinks.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin BB

The balcony cabin was much smaller than the big ships and the pull down bunk opened in front of the balcony slider. You had to limbo under the bed to get to the balcony when it was pulled down. This was very annoying and a very bad design.

Port Reviews

Cozumel

I loved the blue waters of Cozumel, but we got stung by jelly fish while swimming.

Harvest Caye

Beautiful landscaping, nice pool. Plenty of chairs near the beach. Chairs near the pool were a hot commodity. The beach had coarse gray sand. Drinks and food on the island are not included in your cruise packages.

Tampa

I didn't like Tampa at all. Miami is much more fun.
