We have sailed Princess four previous times and have been extremely pleased. This time, not so much. The Royal had just got out of dry dock prior to its Rome departure. It should have stayed there a while longer. It was not ready for a cruise. There were workman all over the ship after the cruise started still trying to get it ready. Telephone did not work in my room, no television for first seven days, intercom did not work in our cabin and internet service was erratic at best. Our state room was indeed fine though and very comfortable.
We had the all inclusive beverage package yet were charged for drinks on at least ten occassions. Had to check our statement then go to customer service to remove the charges. These may be minor problems but Princess did give us a $50 credit for the inconveniences.
Food service is excellent on the ship and the Crown Grill is exceptional. There was limited entertainment on this cruise, mostly comedians and magicians, no stage productions. This was a big letdown. The guest enrichment lecturer was very good. Movies available were old, some were identical to those on a cruise in April 2015.
Cabin was fine but for the fact our phone wasn't coordinated with our suite. We would call from our phone and those we called would think we were from another cabin. This was corrected after a week. Intercom didn't work in the cabin either, had to go out in hallway to hear announcements.
Experienced Rome for three days before cruise started, it was great
