We have loved Celebrity in the past, but things seem to be deteriorating from their high standards of operation. The Summit is needing renovations, especially the staterooms. From the bed skirts to the black grout and rusty areas in bathrooms and around the windows. As others have said, this ship is showing it's age (16 years) and needs to be in dry dock to correct some of these issues. My mattress sagged and I kept waking up during the night because of a bad odor by my face at the top of the mattress. It took me the whole week before I figured out that someone had vomited and saturated that area of the mattress with the foul smell. Had I realized it earlier, I would've asked the stateroom attendant to change it. This is dangerous.
Overall, the service was pretty good, but not excellent. Both our waiter and room attendant met expectations, but didn't do anything beyond that! I upgraded my beverage package with some persuasion hoping to experience some better wines I wouldn't indulge in at home, but there was a shortage of sommelier's in the MDR, so never got extra help there either. Other bars were limited in their offerings of wines, so basically, I didn't get my monies worth out of the upgrade to the premium beverage package.
We used the "thassalotherapy" indoor pool almost daily. It's a quieter, low key area we found enjoyable. My husband also tried out the large sauna and said it was great.
Great port. Would recommend staying a night before or after a cruise to allow time to explore Old San Juan. Full of history, visit the forts and enjoy local cuisine. Clean and felt safe. Need to be able to walk to see the sights, but worth the effort.
