This was our first cruise and is being written, hopefully, in the spirit of a factual account of our experiences in order to assist other newcomers to either cruising, the Millennium or this itinery.
The cruise started in Hong Kong where embarkation was carried out impeccably with perhaps some short delays in the security lanes for passengers who had attempted to take on bottles of spirits and were arguing their stand. Otherwise it was totally dealt with from baggage drop to entry onto the ship in twenty minutes. Actual departure immigration checks took place on the ship the next day just before sailing – again smoothly. Baggage was delivered shortly after stateroom availability, about 1300. From arrival dockside to balcony took less than one hour – we arrived by taxi at 1215.
The stateroom chosen was Aqua deck 9. Seemingly in good order on arrival with just a few items added later: one robe was quickly added, a second pair of slippers given (even though current policy, we were told was for one pair) and the low battery to the safe changed. Items were removed from the fridge in order to use for medication – however it quickly became apparent that the fridge was barely functioning, and upon request it was changed for one which did seem to at least cool. Plenty enough storage and power points and the bed was reasonably comfortable but never made up to a five star hotel standard. The bath room was OK with decent towels replaced frequently. During the first half of the voyage the hot water pressure was frequently non-existent and at least two calls had to be made to the mechanics – but eventually solved. Shower excellent.
A OK with an excellent attendant - Charlie.
