Traveled with children

We have sailed on many Norwegian ships before. The fact that we are able to leave from New York is always a plus. On this particular cruise, we were to be accompanied by our son, daughter-in-law and our two granddaughters, aged 3 years and 17 months. It was their Halloween cruise and the children were excited to wear their costumes on board. My husband and I are Platinum members and as such, we are members of their Rewards Program, which promises many perks, among them, Priority Embarkation. When we got to the Terminal, no one seemed to know abut this perk. One of the workers directed us to an area marked "Haven", where one could go straight through with no lines. We were told this was not for us. It seems that we had not paid enough for our room, though we had booked a mini suite. Another perk was the priority disembarkation. This, too, proved to be something that looked good on paper. All the passengers were, more or less, disembarked at the same time, leading to massive waits at customs. There was only one person working customs on our multi-tiered line. We got to the customs area at 8:45 and we were processed at 10:30. Here again, we noticed that people on the Haven category went right through, accompanied by an NCL representative. It seems that money is more important than steady loyalty. Having been disappointed with beginning and ending, the middle continued the trend. The complimentary restaurants were unbelievably slow. For breakfast, a drink arrived after the main meal was served. The fruit platter arrived along side of the main meal. Breakfast was taking over 2 hours. Dinner offered similar problems. Though the specialty restaurants were better in this regard, a customer should not have to be required to pay more money than the price of the cruise, just to get better service. The entertainment was meager. Though Rock of Ages and Burn the Floor were offered, they were repeated over and over. What are passengers to do once they have seen both? Other entertainment was offered in the Atrium. This venue however, was crowded, offering standing room only. It was noisy, with passersby, making it impossible to hear what was happening in the program. Our semi suite, a whopping 273 sq. ft., was small and poorly designed. We have travelled on other lines, where the semi suites are 340 sq. ft. and up. The bathroom had no tub, something that we have always had on other ships.

Port Reviews

Nassau

We have been to Nassau many times. Though a beautiful port, in this instance, we only walked around and enjoyed the weather and sights close to the terminal.
