A friend & I sailed the Liberty of the Seas out of Galveston, because I'm from Houston & she's from Galveston, so it was easy, and I've always enjoyed Royal Caribbean in the past.

Embarkation day was simple. We got to the port at approx. 10:45am and were on board by 11:30am. Galveston has a new terminal for Royal Caribbean, so it seemed like there was a bit more walking to get to the check-in area, but the terminal was nice, and the people working there was very pleasant and helpful.

Usually, I park at EZ Cruise parking, and they have coupons online for use when you reserve your spot online. They have vans that take you to the terminal. It's quick and easy. This time I didn't have to do that.

Cabin Review

Promenade Stateroom

Cabin PR

We booked 7615, deck 7, a promenade cabin. It was centrally located and an easy walk to the central elevator. We really appreciated the extra window seat. It made for a nice little seating area (small couch, window seat & a coffee table) that made the small cabin seem a little larger, and it was great to have the light from the promenade so as not to feel claustrophobic in the cabin.

The bathroom is another story--small. At least the shower has a rounded sliding door so there's room to maneuver in there. The only time we regretted having the PR cabin was 70s disco party night. It went on until almost midnight & it was loud. Other than that, the only thing you need to worry about is drawing your curtains while you dress, or the world will see you!

Our room was small but cozy and had plenty of storage space. There are shelves, drawers, medicine cabinets, a closet with shelves, and there was a mini fridge. It's not very cold, since it's really meant to just keep beverages cool. The room comes with a hair dryer in the vanity drawer. I brought a plastic hanging shoe holder to put over the bathroom door, and that helped keep our toiletries tucked out of the way. We never heard noise from our neighbors. The only time we did hear anything outside in the halls, it was a loud bang late the last night, and that was probably the stewards loading luggage.

Port Reviews

Galveston

Galveston is a great port to cruise out of. There are plenty of things to do between the beaches, Pleasure Pier, hotels, restaurants, bars, The Strand, shopping, bike riding along the Sea Wall, etc. The port is only 5 minutes from the Sea Wall where all the action is. Unfortunately it's a drive from either airport in Houston. It's 1.5 hour from Bush Intercontinental & approx. 45 min from Hobby.

Roatan

Normally I really like Roatan. There are lovely beaches and there's plenty to do excursion-wise. We usually take a cab to Bananarama beach club. You pay I think $10 pp to get in and tell your cab driver what time to pick you up. They always do. Bananarama has lounge chairs, a restaurant and bar, restrooms, shower, changing rooms. The only bad thing is that they allow peddlers to walk by and bug you all day, trying to sell you stuff.

Other people like to go see the monkeys at Gumbalimba, go zip lining, etc.

Belize City

I really don't like Belize. I've never enjoyed an excursion that I've booked through ships. I've tried snorkeling, jungle tour and cave exploration & they weren't nearly as good as they make them sound and they weren't worth the expense.

If the weather had been better, I would have tried another beach excursion or perhaps cave tubing, but I just had a feeling the cave tubing would be a long drive and then a whole lot of waiting and then a slow float in a bunched up group of people....nothing like what I'm used to experiencing in the Texas Hill Country. So we didn't bother.

Cozumel

Cozumel is always 1 of my favorite stops. I love to just jump in a cab ($15 each way for up to 4 people) & go hang out at Paradise Beach. It's free to get in & they just ask that you spend $10 pp on food/drinks. That gets you access to the beach, loungers, umbrellas, lovely pool, bar, restaurant, restrooms, changing rooms. I think it's extra to use the water trampolines and toys. And there are no peddlers trying to sell you stuff.
