This was the first cruise for my wife and me. Based on a large number of online recommendations, we decided to go for a 7-day cruise and it was definitely a good call -- anything less would have made the 1st experience feel too short.
CHOICE OF SHIP / CRUISELINE
Since this was our first cruise, we had no preference of cruise line. We choose RCCL Liberty of the Seas simply based on the cost. (we did research all ships departing from Galveston wrt age, facilities, restaurants etc but ended up deciding based on cost since none of them had any deal-breaking advantage / disadvantage over the others )
We were initially interested in booking a balcony stateroom but stuck to interior room to stay within budget and save money to spend on-board. While I'm sure a balcony stateroom would have offered some advantages, upon completion of the cruise, I can say that we never really missed having a balcony. We only spent time in our room at night or to change during the day.
The stateroom itself was clean and well ventilated. The attendants cleaned and took care of it twice a day. Noise from adjacent rooms wasn't that much of a problem -- nothing more than you get in a typical urban apartment. There was enough space below the beds to stow 2 airline check-in bags. The closet was large enough for 2 people with enough shelves and hangers -- my wife and I didn't have to compete for space at all.
Bathroom space was scarce but this was expected. There isn't much counter-top or storage space inside. As recommended by many, we took an over-the-door organizer to keep bathroom cosmetics and it was a brilliant suggestion.
Not much to say here. We parked in the port of Galveston parking and took their shuttle to the cruise terminal.
