Just returned from a 3 night cruise to Cococay and Nassau on the Enchantment of the Seas. This was my first cruise on RCL, 13rd cruise over all. My boyfriend and I took my mom for her birthday, so we really tried to cater to her more than anything, and this was the cruise she picked. Flew in and out of Ft. Lauderdale and stayed there before and after the cruise, which is a personal choice as I do not care for Miami. Used SAS Transport for a shuttle to take us to and from Ft. Lauderdale and the port. This was quick, easy, and inexpensive ($15 pp each way), but not something I will do again. The drivers (both on the way there and the way back) made us uncomfortable, so the trips were definitely awkward for us. Others in the shuttle did not seem bothered though, so again, this would be a personal preference thing and not something taken into consideration when rating the cruise itself. Just thought it was worth mentioning for anyone considering using a shuttle service. As for the cruise, we did enjoy ourselves (it was a Caribbean cruise after all!), but there wasn't anything really that put it over the top or that would make me choose RCL again.
Pros:
Quick and cost effective
Clean, great room steward. Smaller than other inside rooms we have had on other ships, but acceptable for the 3 nights we were on the ship. We usually relax at the end of the night by watching a movie or some TV, but few channels were available, and over half of them were in Spanish. Not a problem though since we obviously don't go on a cruise to watch tv!
Staff at the port was very friendly and helpful. Quick embarkation. Port was easy to get into though it was very hectic with 4 ships in port the day we got off.
Nassau was similar to other older ports. Locals can be very aggressive when it comes to taxis, hair braiding, and other goods. Witness a cab driver and guest get into a screaming and shoving match because the guest did not want to wait 45 minutes for the cab driver to fill his bus up when another full cab was leaving right then. We walked about 20 minutes to Junkanoo beach and hung out at the Tiki Bikini Hut for the day. Was $45 for 2 lounge chairs, an umbrella, 6 drinks, and 6 shots. The staff was awesome, the beach was relatively clean (they were cleaning up the sea grass), and there were hardly any vendors coming by. The ones that did walk by were very polite and non-invasive. The owner even personally made my mom a birthday cocktail and hand delivered it, thanking her for choosing the Tiki Bikini Hut for her birthday celebration. We ate lunch at a place called Conch and Kalik and had a great time. Drinks were strong, staff was fantastic, though the food was only so-so. The straw market was disappointing since it was all the same cheap, commercially purchased stuff from China, and the "store" owners were aggressive and rude, grabbing my arm and pulling me into their stall despite my repeated "no thank yous." Would probably stay on the ship or schedule an excursion if in Nassau again, or plan on going straight to Junkanoo.
