One of the advantages of our recent move to Florida is to take advantage of the easy access to ports for quick weekends away. With our birthdays bracketing the recent weekend, we chose to celebrate the two of us on the Disney Dream.

Full disclosure to ensure a proper frame of reference. First, I worked on cruise ships (not Disney) for over four years, so my comments will occasionally reflect my insights and biases of one who has been part of the industry. Second, we are Disney Vacation Club members and were able to use our vacation club points to book the stateroom, and this was our fifth cruise on Disney ships, second on Dream. Yeah, we like Disney, but I can still analyze service delivery with a critical eye.

If you have never sailed Disney out of Port Canaveral you are missing one of the best port experiences in the world, and that is not an overstatement. Port access is simple and their private parking garage is right in front of the dock. Yes, you can get offsite parking cheaper, but paying the premium certainly was worth the ease of access. Disney allows you to schedule your embarkation time and it helps distribute guest throughout the check in period. We arrived just before our 10:45am check in and breezed through our terminal check in, having completed all the primary documentation online before we arrived. The one downside of this terminal is insufficient seating. About 1/3 of the guests stood in line for character photos (a great distraction of kids), 1/3 were in the seats, and the rest either became floor sitters or wall leaners. However, we didn't have long to wait and were on board by 11:20am.

Cabin 04C

Love the size, the split bathroom and the storage space. These are excellent cabins.
