Excellent Time - Would be great for everyone

Sail Date: May 2009
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami

Getting on to the ship was easy. Had to wait in lines like always, but was quite fast. Maybe 45 mins from arrival at the port till we were eating on the lido deck. We boarded at about noon and rooms were not ready till 1:30 so ate and waited. Room was clean and nice (small but that is expected like all cruises). Common rooms are also very clean.

Food was very good, a lot of people complain about food on cruises. You do have to think they are feeding 1000's of people each day. Service was also very good in the dining room. We ate at the dining room every night and lido deck for breakfast and lunch.

It was very easy to get a deck chair on port days, even close to the pool. On day at sea days, would take a little more time, but still was able to find deck chairs. More people wanted shade so, hard to find covered, but easy to find chairs in the sun.

Entertainment was excellent from the on board personnel but the only 1 out of 3 comedians were funny. The juggler was More okay, dropped his objects quite a bit. The magic show was a joke. Only did two illusions, which were good, but really was only 2 mins of show but took about 90 mins. The shows put on by the dancers and singers were excellent and the cruise director Big Tex was very funny. Did a couple of crazy funny things during the week.

I had an excellent time, love cruising Carnival, cruised Carnival in the past and will go Carnival again. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Valor Interior Panorama 1012

Excellent Service from the Cabin Stewardess. Room's are small but that is what you get on a cruise. So I would say its acceptable. Very clean, and Cabin 1012 was quite for the most part when we were asleep. It is right about the SPA/Fitness center. So between 10am and 8pm it can be a little loud from people dropping things. The roof made a clicking noise a little when we were sailing, but nothing bad at all.

Port and Shore Excursions

Carnival recommends you not to leave the gated port area. Locals were yelling from gates to sell items and tours. We stayed within the gated area, but they have over 100 shops. No need to go out of the gated area. You have to tender to this port and the boat ride is long. Maybe 25 to 30 mins each way. So take everything you need, cause its not worth going back to the ship. Shop Shop Shop, that is all to do. Did not go to the beach or leave the port gated area.

Tender was fast and easy. Was not planning on doing anything but shopping and beach. Beach was very very far from port. Look at shops. Decided to take the Atlantis Submarine Ride ($100 USD a person). Was interesting, did not see all the much, but a fun 90 mins. Did not book on cruise, just walked into the place and went 30 mins later. Local people did not bother us at all, no issues at all.

Ship docks, Very nice place. In the US so locals tend to be from the UK. Lots and lots of bar/pubs. Lots of shopping many $5 stores. Just looked around and shopped. Does not have the US way of life, more like Cuba.

Ship docks to get off, No Tender. Port is gated and locals are not allowed in. Few shops within port, but not many. Went out of gated area and locals harass you for trips to beach and tour. Most say $25 to $20 USD a person. Some shops close by but locals will not leave you alone. Went back to ship to get towels and went with a local in taxi for Island tour and beach. Was $20 USD a person and spend 1 hour touring and 3 hours at the beach. Paid when we got back to the port. Careful on the beach, lots of beach bugs. Girlfriend was covered in over 200 bite marks. I had maybe 20 or 30, laying on our towels at the beach.
