My first ever cruise (10 years ago) was on the NCL Pride of Hawaii - the next year it was re-branded Norwegian Jade. I always wanted to return to the ship. After a few other cruise lines I sailed on the Jade last year. I was so pleased with the experience I decided to cruise this year - The Norwegian Epic offered a couple of new destinations so I duly booked.

Big ship - BIG MISTAKE ! I wondered how a cruise would operate with 4,000 passengers on board. The simple answer is it can't - not in this case anyway. First disappointment was the cabin more aptly described by a fellow cruiser as a cabinet ! Toilet had no wash basin - it was beside the dressing unit. the privacy for toilet and shower was a frosted glass panel and a curtain. This alone would have stopped me travelling NCL had I known in advance.

I could write screeds on the other faults but I will be brief - Theatre too small, not enough bars/restaurant seating, Casino far too big ! Staff were downright snooty, unhelpful and in very short supply. On the plus side the food was good - finding a place to eat it was another matter. Sorry NCL, my last trip with you not even your "rewards" programme could tempt me back as it is a joke, srely !

Port Reviews

Marseille

Enjoyed the scenic train, views , shops and cafes

Rome (Civitavecchia)

I bboked privately to see the Vatican Museums and The Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica. Better than the visit I took some years ago with the cruis company. You can never tire of the sights of Rome !

Florence (Livorno)

Florence on your own is the best way to eplore a fabulous city. Take the open top tour bus and hop mon - hop off. Brilliant

Cannes

Another venue to "do your own thing" - shops were surprisingly inexpensive, sights sounds and cafes all excellent.
