We chose this cruise because we like Holland America and we liked the itinerary. We are more interested in exploring ports than ship-board activities and Holland America suits us for this purpose. We do not, for the most part, do ship excursions, preferring to participate in smaller group tours. This worked well for us on this voyage.
Service was up to HA standards, We had cheerful and helpful cabin stewards and dining room staff. We choose fixed seating for dining as it gives an opportunity to get to know the staff and your dining companions.
The ship had to cancel one stop due to expected bad weather. High winds would have made tendering a problem in St. Tropez. The good news was that the ship was able to organize an alternative stop in Genoa that day. We were impressed with the ease of the adjustment by the company.
Cabin was a little cramped for a Neptune Suite because of the location/configuration. Cabin is a rear-corner cabin with a huge wrap-around deck. Loved the improved bed lighting. Was a little disappointed in the total lack of shelf space in the bathroom. Previous side cabinets have been replaced by a single central drawer. Otherwise the new look in the bathroom is very nice. The cabin is a long way from the Neptune Lounge but we did not find this to be an issue - others might.
What's not to like about Rome. We spent a day just wandering about the city absorbing the sights and ambiance prior to our cruise.
