My wife and I booked this cruise because we got a great deal on the fare. We booked an inside guaranteed room which Holland America chooses, which turned out to be an extra large stateroom in the rear cent er of the main deck, the lowest deck.
The selection and quality of the food was only average. The cruise actually started for us in Seattle and was 18 days, and we ate in the dining room only about 7 times. The rack of lamb and surf and turf were very good. Everything else was ordinary. We ate in the Pinnacle one night and it was very good.
Our major complaint was the lack of free group activities on board, especially at sea on the way back from Hawaii. On the way they had ukulele and hula lessons, but nothing replaced these on the way back. The computer courses were helpful, but were repeated on the way back. There seemed to be only 2 or 3 activities-related crew, including the Social Director. We enjoyed group trivia games, the violin and piano classical duet, cooking classes, bridge, and amateur sports contests.
Took Uber to the Surfrider hotel in Waikiki. Enjoyed coffee on the patio next to the beach, went swimming, walked downtown. The water is not as clean as other islands because Waikiki is so crowded.
Took the $2 bus to Kaanapali. Wonderful ocean bathing and snorkeling, shopping, and restaurants.
Walked to the beach. OK.
Cloudy weather. Did not get around much.
Good tour of city with hop on - hop off bus.
