We've just returned from our 14 night cruise onboard the Celebrity Summit with Captain Kate and her excellent crew. Pre-cruise we stayed at the Country Inn Suites in Elizabeth, NJ. This is an excellent deal if you drive to Newark for the cruise. We bought a package from Country Inn Suites which gave us free car parking, a free shuttle to and from the port, breakfast and a lovely room. A very good value.

We arrived at Bayonne around 11:45. We are Elite and there were many other Elite's onboard. The staff was efficient and moved folks quickly through the check in line. Staterooms were available around 1:30. As this was a cooler weather cruise, we opted for an oceanview cabin #3118. This room has a super large window. The room is adequate in size. We had plenty of room to store all of our stuff. The room does only have 1 oversize upholstered chair so the DH had this most of the cruise while I lounged on the bed. There is also a desk and chair too. We were on the same deck as Guest Relations and in several ports this was also the deck we disembarked from. Very nice location mid ship and convenient to the elevators and stairs.

Ports of call were Halifax, Sydney, Charlottetown P.E.I, overnight in Quebec City, Bar Harbor, Portland and Boston. We made all ports with the exception of Bar Harbor due to Hurricane Matthew remains in the area we had to wait to pass us by.

Ocean View 4

Cabin 04

Large Window was nice. We had problems with the bathroom. First the toilet had a bad smell but once we asked our cabin steward and showed him, the smell lessened. Then we had a clean water leak from the toilet when you flushed. We reported this but it was never repaired during our cruise. I had to keep a towel on the floor. Other than this, we enjoyed the room. The "sofa" is really just an overstuffed chair. The desk and chair sat in the corner of the room by the window which was nice for looking out. Great location on the ship as it is close to the elevators, stairs, guest relations, shore excursions and one of the meeting rooms where they held the ipad/iphone classes. We also exited from this deck at most posts.

Port Reviews

Halifax

We rented a car from Hertz. Rental office is just a block or so from where the shuttle bus dropped us if you are at one of the outer berths or very close if you are lucky enough to have one of the best berths. We drove easily to Peggy's Cove, then on to Lunenburg. Wish we'd had more time in Lunenburg. We opted for a nice lunch which ended up eating up too much of our time to wander Lunenburg. I'd recommend grabbing a quick snack here so you can see this adorable port town. Car return was super easy.

Sydney (Nova Scotia)

As this was a tender port and our port time was short, we just wandered the port town. It was average. Our highlight was meeting a local and having a wonderful long conversation with him. We had a nice lunch at the Old Triangle Irish Pub which has an lovely rooftop outside eating area. Then we walked the water walk back to the tender area.

Quebec City

A very easy city to walk on your own. There is a lower town and an upper town. Lots of steps if you want to hike to the upper town or you can take the funicular for 2.50 CAD per person 1 way. Not a long line for the funicular so we did take it as it was a drizzly day. Wear good walking shoes as streets are cobblestone in areas. A perfect European type city.
