Friends had been on several Viking River Cruises and shared their experiences with us. They rated the Rhine/Main/Danube Cruise as top notch, so we gave it a try, We couldn't have been more pleased. The service was outstanding; Viking staff could provide a "how to" for excellent customer service. The dining experience was top-notch, and the choices excellent, including local food specialties as well as time-tested favorites. The local tour guides added the critical element of a depth of understanding to the shore excursions. It was necessary for us to change ships in the middle of the cruse due to lock difficulties, but the Viking staff handled it without a hiccup! We spent an extra two days in Amsterdam at the beginning of the cruise, and three days in Prague after reaching Budapest, our final destination. We utilized Viking's services in those locales as well, and were quite satisfied.
We will definitely go on another Viking cruise.
Cabin was quite comfortable and maintained quite well throughout the journey. We appreciated the river views, and the ability to witness our progress through the locks.
Enjoyable tour of the community with a good explanation of the timber-framed houses with their unique ornamentation. Tour guide top-notch.
Toured the Wurzburg Residenz included in the walking tour. The ornate interior gave us a window on the past. We also took the Rothenburg ob der Tauber tour, which was outstanding, very well done --- though a bit chilly, with snow on the rooftops and in the flower gardens!
We took the World War II tour, one of the best of the entire trip. It included the museum, housed in the Congress Hall, built on the massive scale of the Roman Colosseum, a sobering experience, followed by a trip to the Zeppelin Field, the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds, which seemed to echo the historic voices of thousands. The experience in Courtroom 600, site of the Nazi war trials rounded out the day, and put us all in a solemn mood.
We opted for the coach trip to Munich for the day, and enjoyed the sites immensely! There were maybe 16 of us ---- with a private luncheon, and tour of the City, including the marvelous Glockenspiel at noon! We also enjoyed the tour of the BMW facility, where people picked up their new cars!
