Sail Date: Oct 2016

We did the October 6th sailing of the Empress of the Seas. However, due to Hurricane Matthew we did not leave the Port of Miami until after 7:30 pm on Friday, October 7th. We were only credited for one day however we missed almost two days. The communication with the guests as to the ports we were visiting and how the events on the ships were going to be altered was terrible. We missed the dinner first night, which was open seating for 2 hours. We did not visit Key West. Our itinerary stayed the same, we just missed a day and a half plus. Our day at sea was nice. GREAT staff!!! They made our vacation. Each staff member from pool bar, to room steward to dining room staff went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. Sunday we visited Nassua, Bahamas, Most of Bay Street was still boarded up. You could see buildings and home that had lost their roofs, huge light posts down and much debris. It felt disrespectful to be their to "party and have fun" while the Bahamians were dealing with the aftermath of a Category 4 hurricane. Senior Frogs was the only place that seemed normal.

RCL administration only cared about the financial bottom line. We were given the option of going or losing our money minus taxes. The ship was 1/3 occupied with many stories of guest unable to come due to being residents or not being able to get into the airports. RCL figured we will minimize our financial loss and just deal with a few hundred upset patrons that will forget about it in a few weeks. Not the loyalty I was expected from RCL. We were the sailing that was sacrificed which is evidence by sailings leaving this week. They are not going to Nassua. Shame on RCL administration. I hope you realize how GREAT your on board staff on Empress of the Seas is.

Cabin Review

Cabin Inside

Room steward was GREAT!!! Love the towel animals each night. The lobster was my favorite.

Port Reviews

Nassau

Nassua was recovering from Hurricane Matthew. Should have gone to different port.

The ship was nicely redone. Atrium is beautiful. Staff was amazing. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. Royal Caribbean Administration really dropped the ball on this cruise. Too bad we had to pay the price for the previous cruise having to stay the extra day at sea.
