We have traveled with Royal Caribbean multiple times and have had wonderful experiences. The Grandeur is an older and smaller ship so we weren't sure what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised to find the ship is in excellent condition and is very clean. Yes, you can see lots of nicks and scratches but you can also see she has been well cared for. Although the ship is small, it didn't seem cramped or crowded except on embarkation day in the Windjammer. The pool area is pretty small but we had 3 sea days and had no problems at all finding a table to play dominoes in the Solarium on any of them. Even though it is a smaller ship, people still found lots of space to spread out in. Bottom line: don't let the size or age scare you away from this lovely ship.
They lost power at the port when we were boarding and this caused a delay of maybe 20 - 30 minutes but everyone handled it well. We began getting to know our fellow passengers in the line and we were soon on our way.
Hurricane Matt was in full force in the Caribbean when we left port. We expected to potentially have issues but were lucky we didn't. The first two days the water was quite rough and we were really glad we had gotten the seasick patches you wear behind your ears before leaving home. You could definitely feel the ship rocking and everyone was wobbling and weaving around. The captain did an awesome job of making frequent announcements giving us updates about the hurricane so we were confident we were safe. Surprisingly, everyone on board seemed to take the rocking in stride and we didn't hear a single complaint from anyone - passenger or crew.
The room was great. We always book a Grand Suite. In addition to the extra space, the perks for a suite are absolutely worth the extra money.
Fabulous city!! The Freedom Trail is an awesome walking trail that is very well marked throughout the city. You don't need to take an excursion to enjoy this wonderful city.
