Overall - The appearance of the ship, the comfort of the cabin and the quality of the food were improved tremendously from my last NCL cruise. The itinerary was good and the ports (not Costa Maya - a waste) left us with incredible memories. Roatan - Underwater Museum, Belize - Lamanai ruins and river safari, and Cozumel - Save the Turtles, were safe, fun and worth every penny.
I marked down for bar service. Bartenders were either rude or uninterested the majority of the time. I would guess this is because everyone is on a drink package (definitely worth it as even mid-range drinks are $9.75) and their tips are essentially set. On past cruises, I've noticed even on the package a ticket is run and you have the chance to tip. It is just hard when not carrying cash. Also bars seemed to be out of stock too often.
We had a three dinner specialty dining package, and enjoyed La Cucina and Cagney's, but would likely not pay to eat there. Moderno would be worth every penny for the salad bar alone. Taste and Savor (the complimentary dining rooms) have wonderful menus that change daily and the Tropicana is a beautiful room. If I had to do it all over again, I would book a set time every night in the Tropicana. It's the perfect mix of old-school cruising but without the nightly need to really dress up. A huge BOOOOO to NCL for making room service breakfast as memorable as the stale continental breakfast at a Motel Six. The buffet breakfast was delicious, but I really miss having my eggs and bacon on the balcony watching us pull into port.
Our bathroom in the spa mini suite (14756) was AMAZING. Having suffered through every stateroom bathroom I've ever crammed my 6'2 275 pound frame into, I can honestly say I wish I could have that bathroom in my house. The shower alone was worth the upgrade. The room was very comfortable and the balcony, while a bit smaller than a 4X8 sheet of plywood, did the trick. More than ample closet and storage space for two. Ideally located to the stairs to shoot one deck up to the pool/sports deck and WAY to convenient to the buffet for snacks any time. Several reviews commented on the noise. At 6:30 each morning, there is fifteen minutes of muffled thumping as deck chairs are set out. With earplugs, you will not hear. If a medium sleeper, it will not bother you. The power washing started around 430 am on the day we got into port and that did wake me up, but it was to be an early morning for disembarkation anyway.
