We have cruised on most of the popular cruise lines, and hadn't been on Carnival for a couple of years, so we decided to try the Pride out of Baltimore as it was the closest port to our home near Pittsburgh. Earlier this summer, we had sailed on the Breakaway to Bermuda so it was nice to be back on a "smaller" ship. Those that have cruised before know that there is a difference between cruise lines, and also between ships, so the expectations of a cruise on Carnival are different than those on other cruise lines. While we are 'seniors', Carnival has a somewhat younger demographic (though the Pride really ended up being a fairly balanced spread of age groups, though this partially was due to the late September sailing date.

Let me start my review by saying that we had been to all of the ports (except Freeport) before, and so we didn't go for the ports but in spite of them. We've been there, done that, so we didn't even get off at Half Moon Cay or Grand Turks (the ship is wonderful when most are gone, and you can just enjoy the quiet of the serenity area)!!! We would definitely sail again on the Pride, as the pluses of the ship and it's convenient departure port outweigh the issues I will comment on below. As we have sailed Norwegian most frequently in the near past, it provides a comparison.

Please understand that ALL cruises have SOMETHING to upset you if you want it to. On the other hand, if you look at the cup as being half full rather than half empty, the shortcomings will be just minor issues. While I will highlight the things that we found less than ideal, the trip overall was really very nice.

Cabin Review

Balcony (obstructed views)

Cabin 7A

The obstructed balcony cabin had a view over the top of the life boat. This was fine, as really there is little reason to look down at the water. The hidden gem of this room is that the balcony extends behind the elevators, so you get the two side chairs and table PLUS two lounge chairs! The balcony is only about 3-4 feet deep, so the chairs are sideways, but this is a real plus. We never heard the elevators even one time. At this end of the ship, there is VERY minor vibration every so often from the ship thrusters, but don't let this dissuade you. One caution, you are on the end of the room steward's assignment. One day your morning service of the room will be near 9-10am, the next day it will be 1-2pm. If you want it in the morning everyday, request that when you see the steward the first day. The steward was very good....just has LOTS of cabins to deal with.
