Viking does it right. It's not just the ship but the entire crew. All are bright, intelligent and empowered to make your experience right. I particularly like the Viking "culture" from the way they communicate to how things are organized, they really have their act together.
I really like the "all inclusive" pricing. If we didn't care for a particular tour, it was easy to be on our own and either meet the bus for a return trip or find our own way back to the ship.
The food was excellent and varied. The portion size was just right. There was always a lighter lunch option in addition to the dining room. We liked the non-reserved single dining time - but after a few days, everyone had "staked out their table" and we found ourselves eating with the same people at the same table for dinner.
I was prepared to go for a full balcony (Veranda) stateroom - but the salesperson asked me a very good question: What were my expectations for the balcony? He asked, if you are on your balcony going down the river, how do you know the really cool castle isn't on the other side of the river?
Most cruising was done at night and there were very few opportunities on this cruise where having the balcony would have been beneficial. As he suggested, while cruising during the day, we spent our time in the lounge or on the top deck (weather dependent). Based on his suggestion, we took a French Balcony that had floor to ceiling windows which was more than adequate. He saved us over $1,000.
