Our Viking Cruise was called The Romantic Danube, beginning in Germany, passing through Austria and ending in Hungary. Our ship, scheduled to be the Njord, was actually the Freya due to a high water level on the Danube. We were met at the Nuremberg Airport by Viking reps, quickly taken by bus to our ship, and had all of our items placed aboard for us. A nice touch was that a luncheon was prepared and ready as soon as we reached the ship. Our cabin was French Balcony on the upper deck. It was excellent! Everything which we needed was there. Also, every evening, a news sheet was placed in our cabin with information about the coming day's activities. I would like to compliment the crew and ship staff, they were excellent and took care of our every need. The food was truly outstanding, accompanied by wine and beer on every lunch and dinner. The activities were varied and carefully explained before each event. The only problem we encountered (which was beyond Viking's control) was the fact that we fell behind schedule due to the high water level of the Danube. When we did reach the point where we could be exchanged between the Freya and the Njord, it was cleverly accomplished as we were taken on a lengthy bus tour in the Wachau Valley, and upon our return, everything had been exchanged and we only had to move our luggage into our same cabin on the different ship. Much of this activity put us behind schedule by a few hours, limiting some of our time in Budapest. Viking did, however, give us a beautiful night cruise on the Danube in Budapest which was truly spectacular! Our disembarkation and departure from Budapest was flawless. Would we do another Viking Cruise? We are already looking. One tip- I think the lower deck cabins would be just fine for us as we did nothing more than basically sleep in our cabin- the views were gained from the Aquavit or top deck.
