One night in December 2014 a friend and I were talking about our "bucket lists" and I mentioned doing a river cruise. She had already been on 2 river cruises with Viking and said she would like to do another. After some research on the internet, 6 ladies from the Ottawa area all went on the "Danube Waltz" with Viking.

I can't say enough good things about the whole experience! The best part of the cruise was the staff on board - they were exceptional! Our program director, David, was a master organizer as well as a very good entertainer/singer. The concierge, Ivana, went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, including making sure that our group was in the archway of the Hofburg Palace when the Lipizzaner horses were being takin into the arena for a practice. The wait staff was exceptional, particularly our favourite, Darwin. We even enjoyed Captain Geza and Zoltan's company for dinner one evening.

From the time our flight was met in Berlin until we were all safely on the plane in Budapest for our return trip to Ottawa, we didn't have to think about a thing other than having a good time!

Cabin Review

Deluxe Stateroom with French Balcony

Cabin C

The cabin was large and extremely well appointed. It was so nice to be able to unpack, put things away, and stay in one place for a whole week. The twin beds (that could be put together if wanted) were extremely comfortable. There was a large cupboard and a double dresser for all our belongings. There was even a safe in the room. The ensuite bathroom with a shower was small, but more than adequate. It must be well insulated because we were never bothered by noise from the hallway. The chambermaid cleaned our room twice a day and turned down our beds every night, leaving us the information for the next day.

Port Reviews

Cesky Krumlov

Absolutely fabulous place!! Fascinating history and quaint shops, houses, etc.

Durnstein (Krems)

We walked up through this quaint little village and explored the whole place on our own. We even found the factory that makes "rabbit shit" chocolate!
