After much research I choice the Island Princess for our cruise to Alaska. I can not recommend it however, after our experience. There are a lot of issues - all doing with their staff. It was very clear that they were not happy and that the passengers were being handled. The Princess excursions were good and we did hear that they have the best contracts. However, I would NOT recommend doing an excursion on the last day. Just plan something on your own. Also do your own land tour - we did and were very happy. Caught up with people from the cruise that did the land tour with Princess and they were all very unhappy. We have cruised with Royal Caribbean before and much prefer them.

If you still choose to travel with Princess here are some tips:

Embark later (around 2:00), you will have no line. If you do embark for lunch - go to the Bordeaux Room for lunch - nowhere does it tell you it is open but it is. You do not have to go to the Horizon (buffet) for lunch on the first day.

Room was ok. Size was better than I expected. Quality of room was equivalent to a Holiday Inn. Balcony was fabulous. We liked being at the back of the ship but we also like to walk. Electrical outlets on either side of the bed would have been helpful.
