We came to New Orleans for Irish Fest 2016. So, we were in town the weekend prior to boarding the ship. The Louisiana Children's Museum is a MUST SEE for families. Parking is an adventure, in downtown NOLA. So, plan ahead to pre pay your parking, when ever possible. We pre paid our cruise ship parking through Fulton Street garage. Everything went smoothly. Allow an hour to get into the garage, unload, park, and board the shuttle. Be sure to bring cash for tips. Your bags will be handled by three different people, all working hard for their tips. They will be unloaded by the shuttle driver, at the port. Again, a tip. They will be unloading the entire load of luggage for the shuttle at the port. Our family handles our own luggage, so we do not need to deal with the porters or the lines they create. Embarkation was easy. They do check the boarding pass time listed. We were within our window and boarded the ship in Zone 7.
The Dream is a HUGE ship. This has it's pros and cons. It is nice, in that you can avoid the picture stands, casinos, smokers, and drunks more easily. Eating on the Lido deck is a huge challenge during meals. Lines everywhere!
Camp Ocean is run very smoothly and efficiently. They have a gem of a Youth Director, Karolina. She is calm, efficient, and patient. The Camp Ocean staff works well together as a team. Our children were always happy to be going to Camp and sad whenever they had to leave Camp.
The two bathrooms make a big difference in getting ready for bed. Things left to dry in them will take two days to dry, unless you can contrive to get the doors to remain open. When coming into port, the cabin crib for our son would rattle. It was metal. The sound proofing between the cabins is almost non existent. The party girls next door woke us up with their whoops and laughter more than our son's crying could have possibly disturbed them. Sad when a baby makes less noise than partying adults. If you are walking and talking in the hallways, everyone in their cabins can hear each word you say.
We were in town for Irish Fest 2016. If you have children, be sure to visit the Louisiana Children's Museum. It is a MUST SEE!
