I chose this particular cruise as it was a no fly cruise and also wanted to experience P&O's flagship Britannia, embarkation was very smooth having already learnt not to get there early i arrived spot on the time advised, upon entering the ship we came straight into the atrium which was a sight to behold, but things were not so great from there on.
As this was a last minute booking our room was allocated at the port and boy did i wish i had booked earlier, the cabin was very small and the bathroom or should i say pod was so small it would be impossible for any adult to prepare themselves in there. The beds were also small singles and were obstructed by bunks hanging from the wall! The cabin steward was great and kept the cabin clean and fresh. Onto the rest of the ship now and to be fair it was pretty damn good, shame about the price of drinks on board and the cost of odds and sods in the small under stocked shop, we were given the later 2045 pm dining slot which suited us fine but it did seem the waiters were getting tired by then, the food was certainly not the best i have had on a P&O cruise and the selection was pretty repetitive, so on three evenings of this eight night cruise after reading the menu we left politely letting them no there was nothing to our liking on the menu, but would have thought they could have offered something else (as they have on other cruises) Buffet dining was far superior amazingly, and had a varied menu for all tastes every day. The entertainment too was pretty poor, again something i have noticed compared to previous cruises and being as a smoker i found it really doesn't cater for smokers very well, overall i think Britannia will need to sharpen up on the issues i have pointed out to really shine as the best of British.
A lot smaller than you would expect and if you are sharing a cabin then you will find that its almost impossible to get dry in the tiny bathroom and impossible to dress without other members of your party watching you
Weather was "too choppy" for us to enter Guernsey......looked to most people on bard fine then the rumors start about how much P&O save by not sending out all the tenders and how they can save a great amount of fuel steadily heading back to Southampton
Saved money on the excursion by getting a local guide in a tuk tuk 5 minutes from the port.....and the port is the place to get your duty free on the way back nearly 50% cheaper than elsewhere
Once again used local taxis at a fraction of the excursion price and got to see a whole lot more
