Although I have seen many negative comments about the Royal Princess ship, my husband and I loved our recent Mediterranean and Adriatic cruise. And, yes, we are experienced cruisers. First of all, the ship is beautiful and has several features that we love. In particular, the piazza area can't be beat. It is a great location to meet up with friends, have a quick cup of coffee, enjoy some entertainment. We enjoyed Alfredo's (the pizza was great ) and the Gelateria. The international café provides options for quick sandwiches, wraps or desserts 24 hours a day. We also enjoy the Movies Under the Stars both during the day and in the evening.

The service all over the ship was second to none. The cabin was immaculate and had adequate storage space. The balcony is always a nice extra to have.

We used Anytime Dining and no matter when we went to the dining room, we had no wait. However, we were always willing to share a table and meet new people. The food was fine, but I would say a visit to the Crown Grill is also well worth the upcharge.

Port Reviews

Athens (Piraeus)

We arrived a day before the cruise and took a private tour with Athens taxi Service. Nikos, our driver, was outstanding and whisked us to all of the key sights and highlighted his city in such a passionate way. We will return one day.

Kotor

Kotor was magnificent. We took everyone's advice and got up before sunrise to watch us sail in through the fjord like waterways. SO beautiful. We had to tender at the port, but all went smoothly. We did not take a ships tour. We did decide to do a hop on hop off bus, which provided us the opportunity to see outside the city into the beautiful countryside. (please note the company only takes cash, no charge cards--20 euros each)

We had plenty of time to walk the old town and have a lovely lunch. Great port, and quite a surprise!

Naples

We opted to take a private tour here and shared a van with 3 other couples. We went to Sorrento and Positano, with the afternoon spent in Pompeii ( using a tour guide), which is so fascinating. The Amalfi coast is spectacular and although this was a long day, it was wonderful experiencing these Italian towns and landmarks.

Barcelona

Since the ship docks right outside the town, we decided to do Barcelona on our own. We took the hop on and off bus which was a great way to see and get the feel of this unique city. We had bought tickets ahead of time online for the Sagrada de Familia--a good decision because of the crowds. Spectacular thing to see.

We strolled Las Ramblas and enjoyed paella and sangria at a small sidewalk café.

Gibraltar

We did not do a ships excursion, but took a private tour with 3 other couples with a private operator, Gibraltar Inside out tours. They did a 3.5 hour tour and we saw all there was to see on this fascinating island. We loved the monkeys the best! I would recommend this tour operator--very professional, timely, knowledgeable.

We were also able to walk around the old town and do some shopping. Had some great fish and chips at ROYS Casement square. Great food and value.
