Our second time on Holland America to Alaska. Chose to cruise from Seattle on the Westerdam. It was absolutely fabulous. The ship was spotless, and everywhere you went there was someone cleaning or polishing. We had an inside cabin, which was quite adequate for a week, and the stewards kept the cabin in great order. The ship never felt crowded, we always found somewhere quiet to sit. We only ate in the Lido, as we couldn't be bothered getting dressed up! We found the choice of food to be good, especially at breakfast. We had salmon in one form or another every day. We missed the scheduled stop in Sitka due to a storm in the Pacific. The captain gave a very detailed explanation as to why we had to miss the port, complete with weather maps, at his question and answer session. The bonus was that we got to sail through the Inside Passage, mostly in daylight, on the way back to Victoria. Glacier Bay was wonderful, although I think I preferred seeing it in more wintry conditions. When we were there four years ago, it was early June and there was a lot of snow around, making it even more magical. The weather in Juneau was fine, unlike our previous very wet visit and we went on the Mt Roberts tram, and for a short hike. It didn't rain in Ketchikan either! We didn't attend any of the shows. Embarkation and disembarkation were highly organised and ran like clockwork.
