Sail Date: Sep 2016
Cabin: Superior Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

This was our first time on Independence since 2013, and she looked almost as good as ever. We love the ship. She is beginning to show signs of wear, but after 8 years that is to be expected. She is not the biggest now, but loyal fans still think her the best.

Embarkation at Southampton is fantastic. They are so efficient. We had completed the Setsail passes beforehand which also speeds up the process. Disembarkation is also slick.

Staterooms were ready about 1pm, so we had time for a snack in Café Promenade before checking the stateroom, then unpacking when the luggage arrived. Still plenty of the day to enjoy. Our attendant, Franklyn was friendly and efficient throughout the cruise.

Cabin Review

Superior Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin D3

We had gone for a Guaranteed balcony, so I was pleasantly surprised to get a D3, as they a just a little bigger. We had the queen-size bed option and the beds are beginning to sag, so there was a mound in the centre, but they are still incredibly comfortable. The cabin was clean and well looked after by our attendant Franklyn. Storage space is good with room to put everything away. The bathroom was clean and kept clean. The shower gel seemed fine though I didn't use it as shampoo, preferring my own.

Having a balcony is always good.

Port Reviews

Madeira (Funchal)

Sailing along to below Gabo Girao. Time to swim off the boat if you wanted, then sailing back. Peaceful, tranquil experience.

Las Palmas (Gran Canaria)

First time we had been in Gran Canaria when it was open, so it was pleasant to see the town and not just the Sunday Market. Easy to walk into town. El Corte Inglese is a good place for coffee and wifi.

Southampton

Excellent speedy embarkation and disembarkation
