We chose Grandeur because Baltimore is just a couple of hours up I-95 for us. Embarkation was very quick and smooth without any problems. After reading so many negative reviews on the condition of the ship, we really didn't know what to expect but after boarding we were pleasantly surprised at what a nice ship the Grandeur really is. Even though the ship is 20 years old, everything inside looks new and everything was very clean. We experienced exceptional service from our stateroom attendant to the dining room staff, bar staff, and all of the crew that we came into contact with.
We dined in the main dining room every night for dinner, and although the quality of the food was acceptable, it really didn't meet my expectations. We did order a filet from Chops Grille one night when the dining room ran a special for $10 extra per person. The filet was of course delicious, and I really feel like they are trying to persuade you to pay for the specialty restaurants if you really want exceptional food.
We went to shows every night, 3 different comedians, aerial shows in the Centrum, broadway style shows in the Palladium theatre. All of the entertainment was excellent and we really enjoyed ourselves at the shows.
We had a junior suite and were very happy with our room, quite spacious for 2 people. We really enjoyed the balcony, especially for our morning coffee and throughout the day on sea days. Plenty of storage space for all our clothes and luggage, plenty of closet space and hangers for our formal attire. We heard that some of the rooms near us had ac issues, but thankfully we weren't effected and the only time it was at all uncomfortable was the afternoon of embarkation day.
Easy on/off, the port is right off of I-95.
Take the mini bus to Horseshoe Bay Beach, $7 each way per person.
